The Catholic community in Scotland will celebrate the achievements of Catholic education during the week 27th January to 2nd February 2008.
This year's celebration has a particular significance, as 2008 marks the 90th anniversary of the 1918 Education Act which initiated the transfer of Catholic schools over to local education authority management.
An important part of Catholic Education Week is the annual Cardinal Winning Education Lecture which takes place in the Bute Hall,Main Building, University of Glasgow on Saturday 2nd February. This year it will be delivered by First Minister Alex Salmond and will be attended by members of the Scottish Catholic Hierarchy, the Catholic Education Commission, teachers, parents and clergy.
Embryology Bill "attack on unborn human life" claims Bishop Tartaglia

In a strongly worded homily preached yesterday at St Mirin's Cathedral in
paisley, Bishop Philip Tartaglia described the current " Human Fertilisation
and Embryology Bill" as a " state-sponsored attack on unborn human life".
The Bishops' homily coincided with the distribution of a national pastoral
letter from all Scotland's Bishops to the Catholic community warning of the
dangers of the legislation:
The move to allow the creation of human-animal embryos is described by
Bishop Tartaglia as a " twisted enterprise" and he repeats the cal that MP's
should "be able to vote according to their consciences".

First turf to be cut by Bishop Peter Moran, on Thursday 20 Dec at 2.30 pm.
It is nearly thirty years since Canon Duncan Stone, then Parish Priest at St Mary’s, Inverness identified a site and bought the land for a new Church to meet the needs of the Catholic people who were moving into the new housing developments east of Inverness.
