Pope Francis has today (Saturday 22 November 2014) appointed Fr. William Nolan, as Bishop of Galloway. Fr. Nolan is currently parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes, East Kilbride and Vicar General of the Diocese of Motherwell. Reacting to the announcement, Bishop-Elect Nolan said;"I am overawed to be appointed by Pope Francis as Bishop of Galloway. New Bishop for Galloway  Pope John Paul II has appointed Mgr. John Cunningham as the new Bishop of Galloway. The new Bishop-elect succeeds Bishop Maurice Taylor who will retire after 23 years as Bishop.  The appointment was warmly welcomed by the President of the Bishops' Conference of Scotland, Cardinal Keith O'Brien who said;  "I am delighted that Mgr. The Episcopal Ordination of Fr William Nolan as the new Bishop of Galloway will take place at the Grand Hall, Kilmarnock on Saturday 14 February 2015 at 11am. Fr. Nolan was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Galloway in November 2014 by Pope Francis and will be ordained at the ceremony in Kilmarnock on 14 February, by Archbishop Leo Cushley, Archbishop of St. Andrews & Edinburgh. 24 December 2016   Bishop pays tribute to former MP who became a Priest.   Bishop William Nolan, the Bishop of Galloway has paid tribute to Fr. George Thompson who died peacefully yesterday (23 December 2016) aged 88 at Senwick Nursing Home in Borgue.   Bishop Nolan said: “Father George Thompson was a man whose life was inspired and motivated by a deep faith in Jesus Christ. Independent Safeguarding Audits welcomed by Catholic Church

Thursday 30th January 2020   An independent audit of safeguarding processes in the Archdiocese of St Andrews & Edinburgh and the Diocese of Galloway published today (Thursday 30 January 2020) has been welcomed by both dioceses.   The audit was commissioned by the Independent Review Group (IRG) established by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Scotland in 2017. Its role is to help ensure the implementation of recommendations made in a comprehensive report into safeguarding in the Catholic Church in Scotland by the McLellan Commission in 2015.
