The funeral of charles kennedy MP, will take place in St. John the Evangelist, Caol, Fort William on Friday 12 June at 12 noon.
The Principal Celebrant will be Monsignor James MacNeil, Administrator of the Diocese of Argyll and the Isles. The Parish Priest Fr. Roddy McAuley, will preach the Homily.
The readings for the Mass will be:1st Reading: Ecclesiastes: 3:1-7, 11Psalm: 1392nd Reading: St. Paul's Letter to the Romans: 8:31-35, 37-39
Fourteen children from St. Columba s R.C. Primary school, Lochyside, which charles kennedy attended as a child, will sing the Psalm, O God, you search me and you know me .

Reacting to the news of charles kennedy s death, Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, President of the Bishops Conference of Scotland, said;
charles kennedy s death at the tragically premature age of 55 is a great loss not only to politics in our country but to the principles of civic and civilised engagement. His wisdom and courtesy were a mark of his highland upbringing, his political skill grew from his sharp intellect and his humility and concern for others was testament to his deeply held beliefs.
He will be mourned by his family, by many in the world of politics and within the church, by the parishioners of St. John s Parish in Caol and...St. David’s Primary School children help Zambia’s children.

The Catholic Church in Scotland has welcomed the decision of Pope Francis to accept the resignation of Cardinal Keith Patrick O Brien from the rights and duties of a Cardinal. In what is an unprecedented action, Cardinal O Brien has now removed himself from the key duties that pertain to the office of Cardinal: the election of any future Pope and the assistance of the Holy Father in the governance of the Universal Church. Cardinal O Brien will also be reduced to a strictly private life with no further participation in any public, religious or civil events.

At a reception to be held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on Thursday 5 July 2007, the Queen together with both of Scotland s Catholic Archbishops and other Catholic representatives will officially mark the 500th anniversary of the gift of the Sword of State.
